UPDATE 04/02/2021
BAYTOWN SAINTS YOUTH SOCCER CLUB
Baytown Soccer Complex
Beautiful Weather is in the Forecast.
Baytown Soccer Complex will be open for practice Friday and Games This weekend.
Unsportsmanlike Behavior
Coaches and Parents, please remember that the majority of our Players and Teams although they all go out to the field and compete they are considered and categorized as Grassroots/Recreational Teams and Players. What this means is that we must be able to recognize that not all Teams are composed the same and some teams may not be fully capable of competing at the same level as other teams. With this said, I want to make sure we understand that the Leagues we are associated with, BAYSA, East Lake and Independence Leagues, all consider “Running up the Score” as unsportsmanlike behavior.
“Running up the Score” is defined as a team having a double digit advantage against the opposing team. at the end of the game. All associated leagues will sanction the Coach of the Team with a one game suspension after the Second offense.
Although a Coach may be able to sit out a game, let us be reminded that for a Grassroots/Recreational Team going home with a double digit defeat can and will discourage players from wanting to participate in this sport and may move on to other activities, creating a problem for everyone if we do not have enough players to compete against.
I encourage all Coaches and Parents to take this into consideration when playing games. If you see your opposing team is not at the same competitive level as your team make an effort to change things up and use the game as an opportunity to try new things. Be respectful of your opponent and make sure you don’t make it evident that they are unable to compete at your level. We are all out on the fields to enjoy this great game of Soccer.
Let us be the Club that has the Coaches and Teams that are able to compete at a top level but also are understanding of other Teams and Players abilities.
This is not the World Cup
Coaches and Parents, lets remember that this weekend matches are not the World Cup nor will They help your team qualify for the World Cup.
Lets make sure we go out to the Fields and are Competitive but make sure this competitiveness allows room for player growth and development.
Don’t forget our Goal and Club Philosophy when we are out on the fields and also remember that we all must follow our Club Norms and Guidelines as well as Code of Ethics.
